Southern California Association for Miniature Potbellied Pigs is an association of pig lovers who meet once a month as well as sponsors fun-filled pig events such as pig shows and community educational fairs regarding potbellied pigs. If you have a potbellied pig(s), or if you are just interested in learning about them and hanging out with those who do, please join us.
SCAMPP'S MISSION IS TO EDUCATE AND PROVIDE INFORMATION ON PROPER CARE, HEALTH, FEEDING, TRAINING AND RAISING OF POTBELLIED PIGS. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO ADOPT A POTBELLIED PIG FROM A SHELTER OR SANCTUARY, THEREBY PROVIDING A GOOD LOVING HOME FOR A HOMELESS PIGGY WHO REALLY NEEDS A HOME. SEE OUR "ADOPTION CORNER" FOR MORE INFO ON WHERE YOU CAN ADOPT A PRECIOUS PIGGY WHO NEEDS YOUR LOVE AND ATTENTION.
At this time, SCAMPP is not a 501-c-3. In addition, SCAMPP is not a rescue organization but rather a social club with members who are interested in educating the general public on matters of potbellied pigs AND we are only a financially supportive club to various local and state rescues.
MINIATURE POTBELLIED PIGS MAKE WONDERFUL PETS. THEY ARE CLEAN, THEY CAN BE LITTER-BOX TRAINED, THEY DON'T SHED LIKE DOGS OR CATS, OR GET FLEAS LIKE DOGS OR CATS, AND CAN DO TRICKS A DOG NEVER THOUGHT OF!!! THEY DON'T KEEP PEOPLE AWAKE ALL NIGHT BARKING LIKE DOGS DO, AND DON'T RUN THE NEIGHBORHOOD GOING POTTY IN EVERYONE ELSE'S YARDS. THEY CAN EVEN WALK ON A LEASH. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PET THAT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT, THEN A MINIATURE POTBELLIED PET PIG IS THE PERFECT CHOICE!!!
When SCAMPP was formed {in 1991} when the potbellied pig was brought over to our country, it was a club that supported breeding and breeders. Over the past several years, we have evolved into more of a "fun" club, helping out rescues and rescuing pigs ourselves from time to time. We were then, and are now, a "group" of people with the same love for the potbellied pigs. We love to share stories and chat continually about these loveable animals that have taken over our hearts. We have monthly meetings to do just that. Of course we do have to take care of "business" first, but then we get down to some good ole fashion fun. We hold raffles, play bingo for prizes and hold auctions for homemade desserts on special occasions. We still have "shows," although not anymore of the sanctioned ones. We have "fun" shows these days where we dress up our pigs in costumes and we have many categories you can enter your pig in. The pigs do not have to be "pure" bred or have any certain conformation to enter into our "fun" shows. We have barbeques and "pignics." We hold different fundraisers throughout the year to support our club and rescues. At the end of the year we hold our annual Christmas party which has been held at many different restaurants over the years, and it is always a good time! We do not discriminate. We will never ask your race, your religious beliefs, your political views or your sexual preference, nor will we ask you what your "diet" is. We do not believe these things to be any of our business. We are in this club for the love of the potbellied pigs....period! As stated above, our Association (our "pig club") holds monthly meetings where we discuss latest Pig News and share information on topics such as grooming, health care, training, and keep you posted on all upcoming potbellied pig events.
We publish a monthly newsletter and help support potbellied pig rescue and adoption centers.Membership dues are only $25 per year and includes our monthly newsletters and all special club events including our annual Christmas Dinner. If you live out of our area and cannot attend our events but wish to receive our monthly newsletter only, the dues are then only $12.50 per year (that's 12 issues per year!). We have newsletter subscribers all over the U.S. and overseas who cannot attend our meetings but enjoy our newsletter. Please E-Mail Peggy for more information or for a complimentary copy of our newsletter or send your inquiry, checks or money orders to: SCAMPP, 8304 Limonite Ave., Suite D-Box 21, Riverside, CA 92509.
